Learning Textile Skills with Clarity and Purpose
Behind The Scenes
TextileBaseWork is here to help those that would like to learn about textiles prior to full project construction. We think better outcomes begin with the understanding of how fabrics, tools and methods interact. Our site is dedicated to clear, gentle instruction that is rooted in practice.

Our Educational Philosophy
We believe that textile education should be systematic rather than a list of ‘tricks’. Each subject is taught with the intent of helping students understand the ‘why’ behind materials and methods.

Practical Knowledge
We focus on practical, real-life fabrics, tools you’re likely to have at home and concepts you need to get started. Whether you’re fixing a tear, building basic sewing skills or gearing up for a bigger project, you’ll get the information you need.
How We Teach
We teach with patience, observation, and trial-and-error; we allow each student to learn at his/her speed. We make sure to teach each concept in a digestible way, show its theoretical application, and how it relates to real-life.
We believe in teaching about materials, their structure, properties and how they behave so our students are informed when they make decisions.
We teach foundational skills that overlap with many different areas of the textile arts, providing our students with a good foundation for whatever their pursuits.
Our Mission
At TextileBaseWork, we believe that textile education should always be polite and easy to approach. We’ll never take any knowledge for granted and never try to speed up your learning. Our want you to feel safe with textiles and get a solid and trustful basis for further education.
